LEARNING OUTCOMES 

The purpose of the course is for students to acquire knowledge and familiarity with communication skills covering a wide range of basic interpersonal communication skills, such as social perceptions and communication in relationships, non-verbal behavior, understanding and empathy, effective listening, basic encouragement and paraphrasing, reflection of feelings, focus, face-to-face, interpretation and reframing, guidance, feedback, self-disclosure, consequence control, decision making and problem solving. Also, the course material covers special topics such as professional relationships, burnout and role boundaries.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • become familiar with communication techniques and skills
  • understand the main functions in communication and counseling relationship skills
  • recognizes the feelings, thoughts and desires of everyone with whom it interacts
  • it facilitates the person to achieve proper adjustment and to secure, maintain or promote their health
  • conducts a constructive interview or conversation
  • adopts and develops ways of a better communication and consulting approach
  • supervise, analyze and evaluate practices of applying the individual skills of the communication process
  • adopts and develops skills in forms of communication such as self-communication, interpersonal communication, group-community communication, workplace communication, mass communication
  • appreciate the role of interpersonal communication in the context of health care delivery
  • acquire the ability to be a good listener
  • facilitates wise decision-making, helping the individual learn to make and achieve wise choices
