LEARNING RESULTS

The course has a special infrastructure and is the main introductory course in the study of General Pharmacology. The course material aims at the acquisition of knowledge about the General Principles of Pharmacology, data on Pharmacodynamics – Pharmacokinetics, prescription and study of special pharmacology so that the student aquires information about the classification of specific drugs categories such as analgesics – anti-inflammatory, antidiabetics, serums – vaccines, immunoglobulins, chemotherapeutics, antineoplastic etc.

 

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to understand:

  • The mechanisms of drugs action
  • Their interactions with the biological substrate
  • Their applications in prevention and treatment

CORSE CONTENT

  • General Pharmacology. General principles of pharmacology – prescription and relevant legislation. Definitions of drugs-poisons-forms of drugs and proprietary preparations. Methods of administration and action of drugs. Pharmacodynamics – Pharmacokinetics. Drug tolerance, addiction, allergies
  • Pharmacodynamics – Pharmacokinetics, administration of drugs, factors that affect their action
  • Special prescription for addictive substances
  • Special Pharmacology. Analgesics – anti-inflammatory, anti-asthmatic, bronchodilators, antitussives, expectorants, antihistamines, antipyretics, antirheumatics
  • Drugs for the human body systems
  • Immunological: serums – vaccines, immunoglobulins
  • Anxiolytics, hypnotics, antidepressants etc.
  • Antibiotics (antimicrobials), urinary tract antiseptics, anti-tuberculosis, antifungals, and anti-viral
  • Antineoplastic, cardiological, psychotropic drugs, antihypertensives, newer drugs, gene therapy
  • Hormone therapy, anti-diabetics, drugs against osteoporosis

 

 

STUDENT EVALUATION

Written final exam (100%) that includes:

  • Open-ended questions (Development Questions)
  • Short answer questions
  • Problem Solving
