LEARNING OUTCOME

The purpose of the course is to provide basic knowledge of travel health and prevention and health promotion of mobile populations. Familiarizes students with the health issues faced by mobile populations as well as the factors that affect their health and the health services they receive (culture, language, experiences).

Upon successful completion of the course, the student is able to:

  • knows the concepts of mobile populations, refugees and migrants
  • knows the policies and strategies concerning the health of mobile populations
  • appreciates the health issues that arise in mobile populations and the factors that affect their health
  • manage health issues of mobile populations in the community
  • provides primary health care services with respect to the cultural background of each person
  • design and implement a comprehensive immunization program for vulnerable groups, mobile populations
  • give instructions and provide advice in the context of travel health (necessary vaccinations, individual protection measures, chemoprophylaxis)
  • give instructions and advice to travelers of special groups (children, pregnant women)
  • instruct on safe water, food, environmental hazards and avoiding insect bites
  • manages the returning traveler with a health problem
  • know the diseases that are endemic in tropical countries and manage them in the community.

COURSE CONTENT

  • Concepts of moving populations. Trends, refugee waves, migration flows
  • Cross-border threats to health, communicable diseases
  • Immunization and mobile populations. Cross-border immunization coordination
  • Intercultural health
  • Assessment of health needs of mobile populations
  • Travel health, tropical diseases, epidemiological data.
  • Assessment and management of health risk for the traveller
  • Health counseling in the context of the prevention of travelers (vaccinations, chemoprophylaxis for malaria, instructions for preventive measures of food and drink consumption, protection from insects and animal bites, etc.)
  • Travel health counseling for special population groups (elderly, people with chronic diseases, children, pregnant women)
  • Managing health issues after return
  • Policies related to mobile populations
  • Strategies and programs for the prevention and health promotion of mobile populations

 

STUDENT EVALUATION

Final written exam (100%) including multiple choice and short answer questions
