Vassalou Evdokia

Dr Evdokia Vassalou is a PharmD (University of Athens), specialised in Medical Mycology (Pasteur Institute, Paris, France). She has an MSc in Public Health (National School of Public Health, Athens, Greece); and an MSc in Crisis Management (University of Athens, Greece). She earned her PhD in Medical Microbiology (Parasitology) from the Medical School of Athens, Greece. In 2007-2008, Vassalou studied Tropical Medicine  and International Health in Université Paris VII, France, (Diplôme Interuniversitaire de Médecine tropicale-–Santé internationale),  completed a course in Travel Medicine and did a clinical training in the Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, Avicenna Hospital, Paris, France. In 1990, she was elected as a Teaching/ Research Fellow at the Department of Parasitology, Entomology and Tropical Diseases. She was also the Head of the Biosafety-Level 3 (BSL3) Laboratory for the Detection of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy at the National School of Public Health and Deputy Head of the National Reference Centre for Malaria.

Since 2019, Dr Vassalou is an Assistant Professor of Parasitology-Tropical Medicine and Travellers’ Health at the Department of Public and Community Health (DPCH), School of Public Health in the University of West Attica. She is the Deputy Head of DPCH’s Division of Environmental Health. Also, she currently serves as a Deputy Head of the DPCH’s Post-Graduate Programme in Environmental Communication and Health Promotion and participates in post-graduate programmes of the Medical School, University of Athens.

Vassalou currently teaches Parasitology-Mycology, Tropical Medicine, Travel Health, and Crisis Management at under- and post-graduate level. Her research focuses on parasites of the environment, parasitic diseases of travellers and mobile populations, and their impact on Public and Community Health. She has published her work in International and Greek peer-reviewed journals indexed in PubMed, Scopus, ISI etc. and authored scientific chapters in International and Greek books. Also, she has offered lectures and presentations in International and Greek conferences, congresses and meetings.

Dr Vassalou is an active member of the Committee for Tropical Disease Prevention and Control of the Greek Ministry of Health. She is an active member of the French Society of Travel Medicine, the Hellenic Society of Travel Medicine, the Hellenic Society of Medical Mycology and the Hellenic Scientific Society of One Health. Vassalou is also an alumna of the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France.
