LEARNING RESULTS

The aim of the course is for the student to acquire knowledge and familiarization in psychology on health-disease issues, to understand psychological concepts of psychological effects, perceptions, attitudes, behavior, factors and phenomena in health promotion, disease prevention, which shape in the field of health. It also introduces the theories and models of psychology as they apply to the health sciences. The course aims to provide the important perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors in promoting health and preventing disease.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Be aware of the important theories concerning bio-psychosocial, acceptable, and unacceptable behaviors.
  • Know the psychosomatic theories in order to recognize the psychological factors related to health.
  • Know the relationship between stress and health, the perception and interpretation of symptoms, the experience of the disease.
  • Know and analyze traditional and modern models of healthy or unhealthy behavior.
  • Understand cognitive biases in assessing the risk of contracting various diseases.
  • Understand health protective behaviors and cognitive representations of diseases.
  • Understand the various strategies and techniques to reduce and neutralize the various negative effects that threaten the daily health of the individual.
  • Be aware of the negative consequences of adopting unhealthy practices in everyday life for example the creation of addictions.
  • Adopt an empathetic attitude towards the individual and the family.
  • Identify and describe the basic psychological needs of health professionals for example symptoms of burnout.

  • Socio-cognitive models for predicting people’s behavior in health issues
  • Model of Health Beliefs, Theory of Planned Behavior, Self-Efficacy and Internal Control Focus
  • Study models of the stages in the adoption of preventive behaviors. The theory of motivation health protection
  • Psychological Approaches to the psychosomatic relationship
  • Psychological factors in the perception and interpretation of physical symptoms
  • Attitudes and Behavior, Stereotypes and Prejudices
  • Cognitive biases in assessing the risk of various diseases
  • Health protection behaviors and cognitive representations of diseases
  • Addictive Behavior Learning Process
  • Stress and health
  • Occupational Exhaustion

 

STUDENT EVALUATION

Written final exam (100%) that includes:

  • Multiple choice questions
  • Short answer questions
