Undergraduate Studies

The curriculum of the Department covers the scientific field of Public and Community Health with emphasis on disease prevention and the promotion of health of the individual, family and community in a healthy, safe and functional environment. The education of students is fully discrete with a clear focus and orientation. The curriculum has been developed in accordance with current trends in public and community health education and the study of curricula with a similar subject matter in Europe and internationally, as well as the needs dictated by the dynamics of the labour market.

The Department is a unique Department with 2 streams, which follow three common semesters of training in the basic scientific fields of public and community health:

(a) Public Health whose curriculum focuses on the scientific field of environmental health)

(b) community health, the curriculum of which focuses on the scientific field of population health and health promotion

The physiognomy of the graduates of the Department

Graduates of the Department of Public and Community Health aim to protect public health, improve and promote community health with the ultimate goal of reducing health disparities. Through a holistic approach to health, analyzing and applying evidence-based data, graduates respond to complex health issues and current public health challenges. They intervene both in the natural environment and in the population (individual, family, community) and through the development of sustainable policies and strategies, shape communities and environments to make them healthier to ensure quality of life for all.

Employment sectors

Graduates of the Department of Public and Community Health work within the interdisciplinary team. They pursue careers both in public sector organisations (e.g. health centres, municipalities, regional health directorates, etc.) and in the private sector (e.g. in the context of health and safety, protection and promotion of the health of employees in enterprises, etc.). a.) as well as to Non-Governmental Organizations (e.g. social capital development, community development, etc.) and to organized research centers and international organizations (e.g. WHO, etc.). They are also given the opportunity to continue their studies at postgraduate level in Greece and abroad, developing their knowledge and skills in their field.
