LEARNING RESULTS
The course provides knowledge and skills in health care delivery, well-being, active and healthy aging in the context of community health promotion. The purpose of the course is to train students to recognize the course of normal aging, its manifestations and pathological conditions as well as to identify and evaluate mental difficulties/disorders and the accompanying social needs. The course aims to enable the student to realize their potential and role in the protection and support of the elderly by emphasizing the enhancement of self-care, the maintenance of independence, the adoption of activities and behaviors that help individuals to remain physically fit . and mentally healthy,
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
Understand the course of aging and all the characteristics that accompany it
He knows the health issues that arise during the period of old age
Assess the health and welfare issues of the elderly and by assessing them, is unable to plan and implement appropriate interventions aimed at the protection and well-being of the elderly
Uses tools and methods to assess the health needs of older adults in order to implement targeted intervention programs related to healthy aging
It operates independently and/or in collaboration with health professionals in the context of the provision of primary health care services in the elderly
Provides counseling and health education on health issues that concern this age group in order to improve their quality of life
It provides health care services in the whole spectrum related to the elderly both in primary health care structures and in the community or at home
Educate the elderly and their family environment in their care

COURSE CONTENT
Aging population and themselves. Demography
Physiology of aging by systems. Theories of aging
Principles of health care for the elderly
Nutritional labels in old age
Assessment of an elderly person’s health history and health needs.
Elderly health problems. Vulnerability. Interventions
Special pathological and chronic conditions. Health counseling – Education of the elderly-Interventions
Medicines and the elderly
Health prevention services – follow up – screening – vaccinations and skin reactions
Psychosocial problems. Payment. Dementia. Prevention and Interventions
Community intervention programs to achieve healthy aging
Design – implementation – evaluation of Health Promotion programs
Health promotion, health maintenance and care of the elderly person at home (home visit)
Health counseling. Education of the family environment in the care of the elderly person
Interconnection of the elderly and the family with other services according to the health needs that arise
