LEARNING OUTCOME

The purpose of the course does not provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out scientific work in the context of prevention and the health of the individual, the family and the community. The course includes fieldwork and report writing, in the form of a thesis. The field exercise is applied to various health structures in Greece or abroad and bodies drawing up health strategies and policies. Students are given the opportunity to work as scientists in the context of the interdisciplinary team in various health structures in order to apply the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in real conditions. Within health services, they evaluate health studies and design, implement and evaluate comprehensive community health promotion programs.

 

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • the appropriate methods of assessing the health needs of the community
  • sets priorities and goals for the prevention and promotion of individual, family and community health
  • designs, implements and evaluates comprehensive prevention and community health promotion programs
  • seeks valid scientific sources of epidemiological evidence and good practice/experience/procedure bases
  • collect and process primary and/or secondary data
  • analyzes documented data in the scientific literature for their applicability to the target population
  • implements current policies at international, national and local levels
  • preventive interventions and screening programs, counseling and health education are carried out in the community
  • assesses the possibility of utilizing personal means, resources and capabilities for health promotion
  • assesses the degree and type of support and empowerment of individuals, families and the community that is appropriate in each case to promote health
  • works either autonomously or in collaboration with other scientists as part of the interdisciplinary team to address the health needs of the individual, family, community
  • supports and advises the individual, the family, the community on the wishes of changes in their lifestyle to promote their health
  • exercise a bridging role and highlight actions and stakeholders and develop community development networks aimed at prevention and health promotion
  • document his/her work and prepare reports of integrated prevention and health promotion programs in the community
  • presents and supports prevention and health promotion programs
  • participates in the formulation of strategies and policies for the prevention and promotion of health

  • Fieldwork in PHY structures and other health agencies (Ministry of Health, local government, NGOs, scientific organizations, independent advocacy and human rights authorities, etc.)
  • Assessment of health needs at individual, family and community levels
  • Prevention and promotion of general population health
  • Prevention and health promotion of special, vulnerable and high-risk groups
  • Design, implementation and evaluation of prevention and health promotion programs
  • Community development
  • Interface
  • Strengthening volunteering in health matters and support networks
  • Strategies and policies at local, national and international levels. Drafting of health policies
