LEARNING OUTCOME
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the concepts of emergencies, disaster and crisis and does not provide knowledge about the multifactorial management of emergencies in the context of public health.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- understands basic concepts and definitions in the field of public health emergencies
- recognize and assess public health emergencies
- know and analyze the methodology of designing public health emergency management models
- recognizes key features of community preparedness planning
- know and analyze risk management models in the crisis and response to emergency situations in the context of public health
- understand the importance of information management in crisis as well as know basic tools and skills
- know the role of volunteers and coordinate the group of volunteers
- knows the role of public health scientists
- participates with other scientists in the planning, management/response of public health emergencies as well
- knows the process and participates in the evaluation and assessment of the interventions with the aim of improving the design.

COURSE CONTENT
- Definitions and concepts (emergencies, crisis, mass disasters, Public Health)
- Operational plans to deal with emergency situations
- International Health Regulations
- Management of emergency situations, planning of action and interventions
- Risk management (definition, prevention, warning mechanism)
- Preparedness organization. The role of health authorities
- Safety and security issues before and after the event
- Information management (tools, skills). The role of the media
- Managing volunteer teams in public health emergencies
- Evaluation of the intervention and redesign of the preparedness mechanism.
