LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course introduces students to the basic concepts of health promotion & implementation of Health Promotion programs, analyzing terms and principles associated with it, its development and modern methodology that is used in order to achieve certain goals in these programs.

The course aims to highlight the importance of health promotion for disease prevention, health-hazardous behaviors and its contribution to increasing individuals’ ability to protect and improve their health.

With this course students will be able to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills that will allow them to identify factors that affect health, to develop risk management strategies, understand key concepts that shape and modify behaviors, both individually and in groups, and design effective community health promotion programs.

In addition, it aims to provide students with all the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge and skills that will enable them to design, implement and evaluate a health promotion program in the community, workplace, school, and in whatever structure individuals are active in.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • know the basic conditions for the improvement and protection of health and how they interact
  • identify and record the health needs of the population, based on epidemiological data and the use of health indicators
  • design Health Promotion programs based on the needs, aspirations and goals of the Programs
  • determine the appropriate methodology depending on the target group
  • use health promotion and education models
  • to assess the health promotion needs of the target population
  • design, implement and evaluate a health promotion program, based on theoretical models for changing or modifying a health behavior
  • carries out effective health promotion interventions in the community, in school settings, in the work environment, in other structures in the community, as well as in vulnerable populations and high-risk groups
  • work independently and / or in collaboration with other health professionals for effective interventions in each target population

 

In the seminar, students are asked to design a health promotion program on various health issues. This program is based on models, principles, methods and theoretical approaches of health promotion. In addition, they design, implement and evaluate health promotion programs

  • Social and economic approach to health
  • Definitions and concepts. Principles and areas of health promotion. Health-promoting professionals
  • Dilemmas and ethical issues in health promotion
  • Theoretical models and approaches to health promotion
  • Characteristics of an effective health promotion professional
  • Basic concepts and theories about behavior: Theoretical models of health behavior change
  • Stages of planning in health promotion and health education
  • Setting goals in the context of health promotion and health education
  • Modern methodology of health education. Categories of basic methods
  • Utilization of the cumulative action of theories
  • Classify health education based on prevention levels
  • Principles and methods of teaching
  • Utilization of practical communication methods and message development methods
  • Designing effective interventions, by selecting theoretical and psychological models for changing or modifying health behavior
  • Utilization of passive, active and educational methods of health education, lecture, round table, experiential exercises, role-playing games, etc.
