LEARNING OUTCOME
The aim of the course is is to make students aware of the hygienic, physical and chemical factors, which degrade indoor air and microclimate and pose a threat to public health and suggest solutions to address it.
After the successful completion of the course the students will be able to:
- Be aware of indoor pollutants, the effects of pollutants on public health and propose measures to deal with the phenomenon of degradation of indoor air quality.
- Know the hygiene factors that shape the level of comfort, well-being and indoor hygiene and formulate proposals for ensuring public health.

- Search, analysis and data and information synthesis, using the appropriate technologies in matters of health protection.

- Indoor air requirements
- Qualitative and quantitative characteristics, Hygienic factors of indoor air quality degradation such as due to the stay of people, building materials, chemicals, heating devices, food preparation, MEK operation, various activities, etc.
- Distinguished indoor pollutants such as: asbestos, radon, formaldehyde, tobacco products, combustion products, organic solvents, biological agents, etc.
- Emission sources, their properties and effects on health
- Air renewal and treatment methods
- Reference to special indoor spaces, especially public gathering places, means of transport for the protection of public health
- The sick building syndrome
- The use of air conditioners, Examples of calculating air requirements, Reference to smoking areas
- Use of ecological materials
- The ecological house
- Natural hygienic factors of well-being and comfort of the microenvironment
- Elements of bioclimatic architecture
- Impact of urban environment on the indoor microclimate
- Other hygienic factors of the microenvironment.
STUDENT EVALUATION
Evaluation in Greek language
The written final exam includes Multiple-choice questions, Short Answer questions and Development questions
Students, when given the topics, are informed about how to evaluate each group of topics, depending on their degree of difficulty. For the evaluation of students, fullness of answer, clarity, the degree of critical thinking of the student and language proficiency are taken into consideration.
