LEARNING RESULTS

The purpose of the course is for the students to gain knowledge and become familiar with issues of cognitive and behavioral psychology and to be able to apply this knowledge in the context of health promotion. The course material enables students to get to know cognitive techniques, correcting people’s misconceptions about their feelings, needs and ability to control their lives, as well as to get to know the fundamental cognitive principle that different knowledge causes different emotions . , the core beliefs that represent the basis of the individual’s thoughts. Also, it aims to familiarize with the development and application of knowledge and methods of the science of psychology which contribute to the understanding of all aspects of human behavior and to the promotion of human behavior,

 

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

knows social-cognitive models for predicting the behavior of individuals in health matters, as well as their applications in health promotion and education
knows the Health Belief Model
knows the theory of Planned Behaviour
knows study models of the stages in the adoption of preventive behaviors
to know applications of the cognitive models of health promotion and education
understand the psychological factors in the perception and interpretation of physical symptoms
understand the formulation of “persuasive” messages to motivate individuals to adopt preventive behaviors
understand health protective behaviors and cognitive representations of illness
understand health attitude and behavior discrepancy and models of behavior change, psychosocial factors related to perception and understanding of psychological problems
understand the cognitive processing of information, categorization and cognitive schemas, perception of individuals and groups
understand attitudes and behaviour, stereotypes and prejudices
understand the level of applications in health promotion, health professional–individual interaction and communication, social support models, health attitude–behavior discrepancy, and behavior change models
recognizes patterns of dysfunctional thinking and behavior
understand methodological techniques of Cognitive and behavioral psychology
understand the methodology of systematic observation, recording, and analysis of behavior
understand behavioral methods of assessing and modifying behavior problems
develop behavior modification programs to promote individual and community health
