First Aid

 

LEARNING RESULTS

The course aims to offer a comprehensive presentation of all First Aid topics, with the primary purpose to fully educate students and finally the effectiveness on first aid.

The aim of the training is for students to understand that First Aid is a package of specialized knowledge that can be applied immediately. In addition, the seminar, provides the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills, prepares students in such a way that they know what they should and should not do, as well as what they can and cannot do when faced with an acute incident. Students become familiar with the provision of health care at the scene and learn that the margins for the provision of health services in First Aid are strictly determined by the objective conditions in which the acute incident takes place. Other possibilities are provided to the helper by a health structure, or the home environment and others are those that exist in the middle of the road.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

• Decide to provide First Aid only if he / she knows exactly what to do
• Utilize the special knowledge, skills and techniques of First Aid and eliminate possible erroneous knowledge or prejudices, to provide of First Aid.
• Apply the knowledge and techniques for a quick, calm and safe approach to the patient, as well as for quick control, assessment and prioritization, for First Aid provision or call for special help.

CORSE CONTENT

• First Aid Items.
• First Aid Training.
• Emergency actions.
• Approach, assessment, detection of the problem, treatment and transportation.
• Soft tissue injuries. Fractures, wounds, bleeding, special cases of wounds and bleeding, Insect and animal bitesand stings.
• Heat and cold damage. Burns, hyperthermia, heat stroke, sunburn, fire rescue, frostbite, hypothermia.
• Poisonings (pharmaceutical, chemical, depending on the entrance gate, food) -Allergies.
• Musculoskeletal system injuries. Sprain, joint dislocation, fracture and special cases of fractures, bandages, transport.
• Disorders of consciousness-Loss of consciousness. Fainting, shock, coma, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, seizures, epilepsy, hysteria.
• Electric shock, lightning, foreign object in the airway, skin, eyes, ears, nose.
• Suffocation, Artificial Respiration, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Breathing, pulse, suffocation, heart disorders, methods of restoring breathing and circulation, resuscitation position, water accidents, drowning.
• Massive Health Losses and First Aid.
• Ethics and First Aid.
• Basic principles and theories of bioethics

 

STUDENT EVALUATION

• Practice exercises (40%)
• Oral examination that includes practice-test exercises (60%)
