LEARNING RESULTS
The course introduces students to the basic aspects of Bioethics and the principles of Law in Public Health. The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the ethical background of Public Health and acquire a critical approach to the ethical dimension of important fields in Public Health.
By the successful completion of the course the students will be able to:
- Recognize and describe the basic ethical parameters of important issues of modern Public Health
- Recognize the moral dilemmas of modern society and identify the deriving conflicts
- Exercise critical thinking on basic ethical principles and human rights in approaching major Public Health issues
- Assess the need for critical analysis of health issues
- Recognize the existence of significant ethical factors in decision-making and policy implementation in the field of Public Health
- Know the existing legal and ethical framework
- Recognize the need to manage the conflict between the individual autonomy and the general social good in the context of public health issues, while respecting the principle of proportionality

- Introduction to the basic concepts of Law and Public Health Law
- Individual and social responsibility in health
- Ethical foundations in public health
- Data protection and public health
- Bioethics and human rights. Concept of individual autonomy in the field of health
- Contemporary concerns and dilemmas in health
- Relation between law, ethics, and technology
- Public Health and human rights. Community health and individual rights
- Individual and collective responsibility in Public Health.
STUDENT EVALUATION
Written final exam (100%) which includes:
- Multiple choice test
- Short answer questions
