LEARNING RESULTS

The Biometrics-Biostatistics course includes an in-depth review of the basic principles of the theory and applications of the science of statistics in Public Health and Community Health.

The aim of the course is for students to understand the basic concepts of Biometrics-Biostatistics and its applications in research in the field of Public Health and Community Health.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • to a significant degree understand the methodology of data analysis in the field of Public Health and Community Health and the statistical significance of results in research published in Greek and foreign scientific journals
  • to code, enter and present statistical data from the field of Public Health and Community Health.
  • to select the effective methods of measuring quantities and to process with appropriate methods the data referred to Public Health and Community Health.
  • to have the skill to adequately comment on the results of statistical analyzes and draw conclusions based on them.

GENERAL SKILLS
Work in an interdisciplinary environment
Search, analysis and synthesis of data and information, using the necessary technologies
Autonomous and group work
Criticism

COURSE CONTENT
Theoretical part of the course
Introduction-Basic Concepts
Descriptive statistics
Presentation of quantitative data
Presentation of qualitative data
Univariate Descriptive and Exploratory Data Analysis
Inductive Statistics
Introduction: Theoretical distributions and sampling distributions
Estimative
Case control
Linear regression and non-linear models
Applications-Interpretation of statistical findings
Laboratory part of the course

The laboratory part of the course is created in an equipped laboratory space that ensures students’ access to computers and special programs (R langage). Thus, students acquire a comprehensive and realistic understanding of the applications of Biometrics-Biostatistics as they code, enter into databases and statistically process real data from the field of Health.
