Interinstitutional Postgraduate Studies Programme “Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD): Health Promotion, Early Intervention, Special Education, Personal and Community Intervention”

Interinstitutional Postgraduate Studies Programme “Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD): Health Promotion, Early Intervention, Special Education, Personal and Community Intervention” aims to provide postgraduate specialization, as well as theoretical and clinical immersion for scientists of various disciplines in issues related to Education, Public Health Promotion, and Health Sciences. In practice, these are intersecting and interrelated disciplines that touch on epidemiology, pedagogy, psychology, social adaptation, therapeutic interventions, and interventions for vulnerable groups.

The aim of the Programme is to provide excellent training for professionals of different disciplines in ASD, which will lead to a postgraduate degree in the field of study: “Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Health Promotion, Early Intervention, Special Education, Individual and Community Intervention”, with two specialisations:

  • Specialisation 1: Interventions in special education
  • Specialisation 2: Interventions in clinical practice: individual and community intervention

The graduates of the Programme based on the specialisation they will pursue:

  • will have familiarity and knowledge of the epidemiological data relevant to ASD, as well as public health issues and factors associated with ASD.
  • will be able to develop skills of critical appraisal of literature and skills in writing different types of studies.
  • will have familiarity and knowledge of the main features and symptomatology of ASD and understand its neurobiological background.
  • will be able to describe the developmental milestones as well as the main psychopathological entities in childhood and adolescence.
  • will be able to demonstrate skills in exploring the dynamics of families of children with ASD, the problems that may arise, the emotional and other difficulties of parents and siblings, and relevant intervention skills in these situations.
