LEARNING OUTCOME

The course aims to introduce students to the concepts of Health Promotion and Education and to link them to the prevention and defence of health.

It also refers to methods and techniques applied during the development of a Health Education Program.

Finally, the aim of the course is for students to be able to design, implement and evaluate Health Education programs.

After the end of the course the students will be able to:

  • Understand the institution of Health Promotion and Education and their role as Health Professionals in providing Health Education
  • To assess the needs and specificities of a population group, to set priorities and ultimately to plan a Health Education Programme
  • To select the appropriate methods and techniques for the implementation of the programme and the achievement of the objectives
  • To apply methods of evaluation a Health Education program
  • To approach holistically the concepts of Health, Health Promotion and Health Education in relation to values, ethics and in general the social, political and natural environment, during the design and implementation of Health Education Programs
  • To apply knowledge and skills that will enable them to coordinate and manage Instructor Training Programs in Health Education.

 

 

GENERAL SKILLS 

  • Search, analysis and synthesis of data and information about the target population
  • Decide which programme to develop by setting priorities, taking into account the Benefit/Cost ratio
  • Autonomous and teamwork, as well as work within an interdisciplinary working group
  • Design and management of health education programmes, respecting diversity and multiculturalism
  • Demonstration of social, professional and moral responsibility and sensitivity to gender and ethnicity
  • Criticism and self-criticism.

  • Factors affecting health
  • Models of approach to Health Promotion and Education
  • Ethical Issues and Dilemmas in Health Promotion and Education
  • Characteristics of a Health Promotion and Education Professional
  • Models of health behaviour at interpersonal level, at the level of groups and organizations.
  • The role of the media in Health Promotion and Education
  • Definition of needs and priorities for the design of a Health Education programme, formulation of purpose and objectives
  • Methodology of Health Education
  • Principles of communication in Health Education
  • Techniques for changing attitudes and behaviour
  • Methods of evaluating a Health Education Programme
  • The role of the Public Health Supervisor in Health Education.

 

 

STUDENT EVALUATION

The evaluation language is Greek.

Written final examination including Multiple Choice Test, Short Answer Questions, Judgment Questions. Students, when given the topics, are informed of how each group of subjects is evaluated, depending on their degree of difficulty. The assessment shall consider the completeness of the response, the clarity, the degree of critical thinking and the language proficiency of the student.
