LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides knowledge and skills applied to the principles and positions of Primary Healthcare (PHC). The course material covers issues related to the principles of PHC, on reducing health inequalities, equal access to health, creating a supportive environment, improving the quality of life, focusing on health promotion and disease prevention in the community level (both in individual and family). Potentially modifiable risk factors associated with increased morbidity are described and analyzed and the methodology for dealing with them, preventing, and promoting health in the community. With this course students will be able to develop and implement PHC services, within the interdisciplinary health team, either individually or in collaboration with other professionals.

 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Assess populations’ health needs as well as the factors contributing to modern health problems, like environment, social factors, lifestyle.
  • develop and implement health promotion programs in individual, family and community level, focusing on vulnerable populations, high-risk groups, the workplace and the school environment.
  • work to reduce health inequalities.
  • carry out screening for early detection in the community, in the school environment, in the working environment as well as in special population groups such as migrants.
  • monitor the health of the population.
  • participate in the management of chronic diseases in PHC structures and at home.
  • implementing vaccination programs based on guidelines.
  • make interface between primary care services and other health and welfare structures, for the management of referrals following an assessment of health needs of the individual or family.
  • participate in the management of chronic diseases in PHC structure and at home.
  • assess needs and provide home health care to vulnerable or high-risk groups.
  • provides counselling, support and health care to individuals and families.
  • explore and improve conditions affecting the quality of life of individuals at Community level.
  • manage and participate in the resolution of public health issues, in cooperation with private or public services.
  • cooperate effectively in the interdisciplinary team.

 

In the laboratory, students become familiar with the application of clinical skills, in PHC and participate in providing health services and implementing interventions in PHC structures.
